bvonk | Mercedes is goed begonnen aan de Grote Prijs van Abu Dhabi. Lewis Hamilton noteerde de snelste tijd en zijn teamgenoot George Russell de tweede. Charles Leclerc maakt met zijn Ferrari de top 3 compleet.

Er kwamen een hoop rookies in actie in actie tijdens de eerste vrije training. Liam Lawson bij Red Bull, Robert Shwartzman bij Ferrari, Logan Sargeant bij Williams, Pietro Fittipaldi bij Haas, Patricio O'Ward bij McLaren, Jack Doohan bij Alpine en Felipe Drugovich bij Aston Martin. Max Verstappen heeft dus niet meegedaan aan de eerste training.
